Dr. Folabora Bryhm Remembers Late Chief Olorunipa on 21st Anniversary of His Assassination

Dr. Folabora Bryhm, the founder of the Dr. Folabora Bryhm Foundation, has issued an emotional tribute to the late Chief Phillip Olorunipa, former Chairman of Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area and Chairman of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), a position he was holding as at the time of his assassination.
It was on March 7, 2004, that Chief Olorunipa, a highly respected and beloved political figure, was brutally murdered by gunmen at 3:00 am at his residence in Kabba. His assassination shook the Local Government, Kogi State, and beyond. That incident left an indelible void that still resonates today.

Dr. Bryhm, in his statement, spoke about the deep loss the community continues to feel as a result of Olorunipa’s untimely death. “Today, 21 years later, we are still reeling from the pain of losing a man who was more than just a politician—he was a dedicated servant of the people, a true son of Bunu, and a guiding light for many,” Dr. Bryhm said.

“He loved his people with a passion. Chief Olorunipa was not just a leader; he was a beacon of hope for many within his domain. His leadership was marked by kindness, compassion, and an uncompromising commitment to the well-being of his people,” Dr. Bryhm continued.

Dr. Bryhm emphasized that Olorunipa’s contributions went far beyond his official roles; and that his legacy as a man of integrity and selfless service lives on to this day. “His commitment to his people was boundless. The opportunities he created for so many are now part of his lasting legacy. We will never forget his impact on our lives.”

Dr. Bryhm extended his deepest condolences to the family of the late Chief Olorunipa, saying, “The pain of your loss remains our collective pain. We stand with you, and we remember Chief Olorunipa’s life and legacy today and always.”
The painful memory of that tragic day 21 years ago still lingers in the hearts of many in Kogi State, as Chief Phillip Olorunipa is remembered not only for the promises he made but for the promises he kept. His legacy continues to be a source of pride and inspiration to all who knew him.
