Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo Emerges “Honourable Minister of the Year 2026”

The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has emerged as the recipient of Democracy Newsline Newspaper’s “Honourable Minister of the Year 2026” award.
The award recognizes his outstanding reforms, digital innovation, and commitment to improving service delivery across agencies under the Ministry of Interior.
In a statement signed by the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of the Newspaper Chief Olugbemi Femi, the newspaper said the Minister was selected after a thorough appraisal of federal ministers who have made significant impact in governance, security and public service.
“Dr. Tunji-Ojo has redefined leadership at the Ministry of Interior. Within a short time, he has automated passport issuance, cleared backlogs, improved welfare for officers of NIS, NSCDC, Correctional Service and Federal Fire Service, and deployed technology to enhance internal security,” Chief Femi stated.
“He embodies the ideals of transparency, accountability and result-driven governance that Nigeria needs at this time.”
The award will be formally presented to Dr. Tunji-Ojo on Wednesday August 19, 2026, during Democracy Newsline’s 16th Public Lecture and Induction into the Good Governance Hall of Fame at the Banquet Hall, National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.
The event, themed “Economic Reform and Sustainable Development in a Democracy: The Nigeria Experience”, is part of activities marking 27 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria.
The 16th Public Lecture will be delivered by Mukadam Asiwaju Asiru Idris, FCA, Honourable Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Kogi State.
The occasion will be chaired by Chief (Mrs) Moji Makanjuola, Veteran Broadcaster, with Hon. Mohammed Idris, Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, as Special Guest of Honour.
Other distinguished Nigerians will also be inducted into the Democracy Newsline Good Governance Hall of Fame at the ceremony.
