SENATOR SUNDAY KARIMI: WHY KOGI WEST SAYS “HE REMAINS THE BEST FOR 2027”
_From Grassroots Town Halls to Federal Projects, Constituents Point to Track Record Over Promises_
As political permutations for 2027 begin to gather steam across Nigeria, one name keeps coming up with striking consistency in the streets of Kabba, the markets of Bunu, and the town halls of Ijumu: Senator Sunday Karimi.
To many in Kogi West Senatorial District, the conversation is not about who is coming, but about retaining who is already delivering.
For constituents, the biggest mark of leadership in 2027 is presence. Since assuming office, Senator Karimi has made the town hall meeting a regular feature of his representation.
The recent Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency Town Hall Meeting was another example. Leaders, youth groups, women, and traditional stakeholders gathered not just to listen, but to ask questions and get direct feedback on federal projects and interventions.
“By His grace, victory is sure and none will be left out,” said Otunba Ojo Johnson Olorundamilare, Coordinator KPSF/WWT Kabba-Bunu LG, summarizing the mood after the meeting. “The gathering of yesterday is a testimony of genuine love for Distinguished Senator Sunday Karimi, his team and the ideals he stands for.”
That “genuine love” stems from what locals describe as accessibility. Unlike the distant politics of the past, Karimi’s office is credited with responding to calls from the grassroots.
Kogi West voters in 2027 are looking at two things: what has been done, and what can still be done.
Supporters point to Senator Karimi’s alignment with the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the state government under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo as a strategic advantage. They argue that having a ranking Senator in sync with the center gives the district better leverage for roads, health centers, education support, and agricultural programmes.
Agriculture remains critical. With farming employing a large percentage of Kogi West’s workforce, constituents note the importance of having a Senator who pushes for federal agricultural support that gets to smallholder farmers, not just on paper.
What keeps coming up in conversations is not just projects, but principles. The phrase “the ideals he stands for” was repeated at the recent constituency meeting.
Those ideals, according to party leaders, are unity, inclusion, and continuity. In a district made up of diverse communities, the ability to carry everyone along is seen as a key political asset heading into 2027.
Hon. Sanni Philip, DG of a major support group in the district, has been at the forefront of mobilizing that unity. Group coordinators across the 7 LGAs say the structure is already in place, and the message is simple: don’t change a winning team mid-stream.
Politics is about timing. With President Tinubu’s administration barely mid-term and Governor Ododo settling in, Kogi West stakeholders argue that 2027 requires experience, not experiments.
“Congratulations ahead to President Bola Tinubu, our Distinguished Senator Sunday Karimi and all the people of Kogi West,” Otunba Olorundamilare declared. The sentiment reflects a broader push within APC structures to secure early endorsements and avoid internal distractions.
For many voters, the choice in 2027 will come down to: Who can attract federal presence? Who answers their calls? Who already has relationships in Abuja to bring more to Kogi West?
On those three questions, Karimi’s supporters say the answer is clear.
As billboards begin to appear and political groups start meeting, the early signal from Kogi West is that performance, not promises, will decide 2027.
For Senator Sunday Karimi, the campaign may have already started — not with posters, but with town halls, constituency projects, and the daily work of representation.
In the words of his supporters across Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu and beyond: “He remains the best for Kogi West in 2027.”
