ENGINEERING A NEW ERA OF EXCELLENCE: KABBA STUDENTS’ UNION REVIVES THE SECONDARY OLYMPIAD 2.0
Theme: Cultivating Excellence. Competing for the Future. Rewarding Brilliance.
When a community decides to invest in the minds of its young people, something remarkable happens. That is precisely the spirit driving the Kabba Students’ Union (KSU) as it announces the return of one of Kabba’s most anticipated academic events, the Secondary Olympiad Competition 2.0.
Following the resounding success of its debut edition, the KSU is raising the stakes higher, the standards sharper, and the ambition bolder. This is not merely a competition. It is a statement that intellectual excellence deserves the same applause, the same crowd, and the same prize money as any other form of achievement.

A Vision Rooted in Community
For too long, the brilliant young minds of Kabba have competed in silence. No grand stage. No public recognition. No reward worthy of their sacrifice. The Secondary Olympiad was conceived to change that narrative. It brings private and public secondary schools onto a single, level playing field where merit alone determines who rises to the top.
This year, the KSU is partnering with the Kabba Academic Olympiad (KAO) to deliver an edition that is more structured, more competitive, and more impactful than its predecessor. Together, they have assembled a platform designed not only to test academic ability but to shape the character, resilience, and confidence of the next generation of Kabba’s leaders.

A Debt of Gratitude
No vision of this scale sustains itself without people who believe in it before it becomes visible. The KSU wishes to place on record its profound appreciation to Engr. Mike Bertola Ibitomihi, Founder of the Mike Bertola Ibitomihi (MBI) Foundation, whose partnership and sponsorship have been the cornerstone of this project. His commitment to the youth and student community of Kabba is not merely financial. It is a testament to what purposeful leadership looks like. This competition would not exist in its current form without him.
What to Expect in 2026
The 2026 edition will host over 100 students from across Kabba in what promises to be the most competitive academic gathering the town has witnessed. Three gruelling stages of written examinations will separate the exceptional from the merely good. Only those who are consistent, composed, and prepared from the first paper to the last will emerge victorious.
The core examination subjects are Mathematics, English Language, the Sciences, and General Knowledge, disciplines that form the bedrock of analytical and critical thinking. Beyond the intellectual challenge, the competition carries a grand prize of ₦300,000, along with the honour of being crowned the finest academic mind in Kabba.
The format is deliberate. In a world that demands fast thinking, structured reasoning, and the ability to perform under pressure, these examinations are designed to simulate exactly that environment. Students will not merely recall facts. They will be required to think, adapt, and excel.

Why This Matters
Education without competition can grow comfortable. Talent without a stage can go unnoticed. The Secondary Olympiad addresses both. It cultivates a culture where students aspire to be sharper, where schools invest in preparation, and where the community rallies around academic achievement the way it would a sporting final.

The ripple effect extends beyond the prize. Students who compete at this level carry with them a quiet confidence, an inner knowledge that they have been tested and have held their ground. That is an education no classroom can fully provide.

The Schools Stepping into the Arena
Twenty-two secondary schools have confirmed their participation, representing both the public and private sectors across Kabba:

Local Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Kabba; Government Science Secondary School, Okedayo; Community High School, Kakun; Christ Anglican Secondary School, Kabba; Claret Secondary School, Kabba; Sacred Heart College, Kabba; Evangel College, Kabba; St. Barnabas College, Kabba; St. Joseph CAC Secondary School, Kabba; Abundant Life College, Kabba; St. Augustine’s College, Kabba; Olutayo International College, Kabba; Local Government Secondary School, Otu Egunbe; Federal Government Girls’ College, Kabba; St. Monica’s College, Kabba; Unique Secondary School, Kabba; Silver Valley International College, Kabba; Correctional Staff Secondary School, Kabba; Basic International College, Kabba; Wise Virgin College, Kabba; Solid Imperial College, Kabba; and Bright Glory International College, Kabba.
Join the Movement
The Kabba Students’ Union extends an open invitation to the entire community, parents, educators, traditional rulers, government officials, and well-meaning citizens, to converge on St. Augustine’s College Hall, Kabba, Kogi State, on 14th May, 2026, as Stage One of the competition commences at 9:00 a.m.

Come and witness the best young minds of Kabba compete not for attention, but for legacy.
Because in Kabba, being brilliant is something worth celebrating.
