The Kogi State Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has received a delegation of the European Union led by Mr. Massimo De Luca on an investment visit to the state.
Receiving the delegation on Friday in his office in Lokoja on behalf of the Governor was the Deputy Governor, His Excellency Comrade Joel Salifu.
The delegation expressed interest in investing in water transportation between Lagos-Ikorodu and Ajaokuta in Kogi State.
According to Mr. Massimo, the proposed project is aimed at reducing pressure on Nigeria’s roads by moving more bulk goods through the waterways.
He said the project would involve SeaLink and other local and international financial partners, including NEXIM Bank and European financial institutions.
He also said other major companies could participate in the project as it develops.
The delegation requested 50 hectares of land in Kogi State, with the necessary Certificate of Occupancy, for the company’s operational base.
Responding on behalf of the Governor, the Deputy Governor welcomed the proposed investment and assured the delegation that Kogi State is ready to partner with genuine investors.
He explained that the proposal would go through the appropriate government processes, including consideration by the Kogi State Economic Council, before a final decision is taken.
Comrade Joel Salifu said he would discuss the request for land with his principal, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for consideration, while assuring the delegation that the state government would communicate its official position after the necessary consultations.
