Ex-NPA Managing Director Aminu Dabo Resigns from APC, Cites Personal Reasons.

By Bala Salihu Dawakin Kudu
October 15, 2026.

A former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Architect Aminu Dabo, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect, marking a significant political development involving one of Kano State’s prominent political figures.

Dabo, who also serves as the APC caucus chairman in Dambatta Local Government Area of Kano State, announced his decision in a resignation letter dated October 7, 2026, addressed to the chairman of the party in Dambatta Gabas Ward.

In the letter, personally signed by him, the former NPA managing director attributed his decision to personal reasons and considerations relating to his future endeavours. He did not disclose further details about the circumstances surrounding his departure from the party.

Speaking in a telephone interview from Abuja, Dabo confirmed that he had formally resigned from the APC and submitted his letter to the appropriate party officials in Dambatta for necessary action.
His resignation brings to an end his membership of the party, under whose platform he participated in political activities and maintained an influential position within its structure in Dambatta Local Government Area.

Despite his decision to leave the party, Dabo expressed appreciation to the APC leadership for the opportunity to serve and for the confidence and support extended to him during his time as a member.
“I remain grateful for the cordial relationship I enjoyed and appreciative of the experience gained during my time of service,” he said.

He also acknowledged the opportunity the party provided him to contribute to its development and progress, maintaining a tone of appreciation in his formal communication.

Dabo is a notable figure in Kano State’s political and professional circles. Before his resignation, he held the position of APC caucus chairman in Dambatta Local Government Area, a role that placed him among the party’s local political stakeholders.
He previously aspired to become the governor of Kano State, demonstrating his interest in the state’s political leadership and governance. His political career has also included service as Kano State Commissioner for Land, a position associated with land administration and related government responsibilities.
His experience in public administration, combined with his involvement in party politics, has contributed to his public profile in Kano State.

As a former head of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Dabo also has experience in the management of a major federal government institution responsible for Nigeria’s port operations and related maritime infrastructure.

Beyond politics and public service, Dabo has established a presence in the education sector through his ownership and leadership of Aminu Dabo College of Health Sciences and Technology and Aminu Dabo College of Nursing Sciences, both located in Kano.

The institutions operate within the health education and professional training sector, an area of growing importance as Nigeria continues to require qualified healthcare personnel to strengthen its healthcare delivery system.

His involvement in health education adds another dimension to his public profile, extending beyond political activities to private-sector investment in professional training.

Dabo’s resignation could attract attention within APC circles in Kano State, particularly in Dambatta Local Government Area, where he occupied a leadership position as the party’s caucus chairman.
The departure of a figure with experience in public office, governorship politics and party organisation may prompt discussions among party members about its implications for local political alignments and the party’s organisational structure.
However, the immediate political consequences of his decision remain uncertain.

Dabo has not publicly identified another political party he intends to join, nor has he announced any new political platform or future political arrangement.
His reference to personal reasons and future endeavours remains the only explanation provided in his resignation letter, and no further interpretation of his motives can be established from the information available.

His resignation also comes at a time when political activities and consultations are expected to intensify across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections. As political stakeholders assess their positions and future options, developments involving prominent figures are likely to receive considerable attention.
Nevertheless, it would be premature to link Dabo’s decision directly to the forthcoming elections without a public statement from him clarifying such an intention.

Attention will now focus on Dabo’s next political steps and whether he intends to remain outside party politics, align with another political organisation or pursue other personal and professional interests.
His resignation also raises questions about the future of the APC caucus leadership in Dambatta and the arrangements the party may put in place following his departure.

For now, Dabo has formally communicated his withdrawal from the APC while expressing gratitude to its leadership for the opportunity to serve.
The former NPA managing director’s next move, if any, will be closely watched by political observers in Kano State, given his previous governorship ambition, experience in public administration and position within the party before his resignation.
As of October 15, 2026, no new political affiliation or further explanation for his resignation has been announced by Dabo.
