FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC ILARO STEALS THE SHOW AT TETFUND FAIR 2024.

The Creative Skills and inventive ingenuity of the federal Polytechnic Ilaro was brought to limelight as some Staff of the Department of Information Communication Technology (ICT) of the Polytechnic unveiled a device called Biometric Attendance Device produced by them.
The one of its kind device was unveiled at the Tertiary Education Trust Fund( TETFUND), National Research/Exhibition fair 2024, held at the Eagle square,Abuja, between October 17th and 20th,2024. An exhibition that enabled inventors in the various high Institutions of learning in Nigeria to Showcase their Creative and inventive talents.
Speaking to the media at the Institution’s exhibition Stand at the Eagle square ,the director of the Information Communication Technology (ICT) Department of the federal Polytechnic,Ilaro, Dr. Soyemi Jimoke said the Invention was the Collaborative efforts of the Staff of the ICT Department, electrical electronics, Computer engineering and Physics electronic department of the Institution, she said.
The device and it Soft software were designed, built and developed by Staff of the aforementioned department of the Polytechnic to assist in monitoring attendances of Students during lectures, payment of tuition fees and examinations as well.
She also pointed out that the Biometric Attendance Device helped to solve the problems of traffic and delay associated with the traditional method of taking attendances of Students in the Class,adding that with the Biometric Attendance Device students don’t need to cue up to take attendances anymore.
According to her, the device assist Management to ascertain students who have paid their tuition fees, this she was made possible through a connectivity with the School portal which ensured the Biometric device captures only the students who have paid their tuition fees, it Controls access to examination,she noted.
The ICT Director also pointed out that, the Biometric Attendance Device also enabled the School authority to monitor Staff’s punctuality, as it ensures that the time for which any Staff Comes to School is accurately recorded , more so that it cannot be manipulated.
Reacting to questions by media men on how long the Project took them from Conception to birthing of the Biometric Attendance Device, Dr. Soyemi Jimoke said it took some armful times for the team to produce the Biometric Attendance Device, saying that initially, they had wanted to go for a device that could be accessed by the use of card ,but after much findings, it was discovered that the use of cards for monitoring attendances will not give them the desired results as the card could be used by proxies, so they had to go back and restart all again so that the desired results can be achieved, hence the Biometric Attendance Device which could only recognize an individual by his or her fingerprint, he stressed.
She Commended the Rector of the Polytechnic, Akinde Mukail Aremu, Phd for the support he gave them during the research period and provision of an enabling environment for Staff to put their Skills and talents to test.
