Federal‎ Lawmaker Allegedly Ordered NSCDC to Arrest KOGI REPORTS Editor, Opeyemi Owoeye
‎
‎Hon. Leke Abejide, member representing Yagba Federal Constituency at National Assembly in Abuja, has allegedly ordered and directed the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Lokoja to arrest Opeyemi Owoeye of KOGI Reports.
‎
‎Owoeye was arrested, today, June 11, 2026, following the publication of a story accusing Abejide of trying to use the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to influence the outcome of the APC Kogi West senatorial primary.
‎
‎Owoeye detention followed a direct instruction from the lawmaker to NSCDC officials. As of this publication, the NSCDC has not provided a public explanation for the arrest or identified the legal basis for detaining a journalist over a news report.
‎
‎This is not the first time Leke ABEJIDE will be using state force to intimidate and harassed people. He had last year did similar thing to his political associate, Jesse from Mopamuro whom he arrested and detained for days for asking him to respect the rotational arrangements.
‎
‎Leke has been banking on his relationship with the presidency to harrazed his constituents.
‎
‎Unfortunately, the publisher’s father, before his death was a great supporters of the lawmaker – a development family members frowned at the lawmaker disposition.
‎
‎The NSCDC are however stalling on granting him bail, stating that Opeyemi will only be released on the order of the federal lawmaker.
