FG Commissions N1.48bn Koton-Karfe Science School Facilitated By Sen. Karimi

By Our Correspondent

The Federal Government has handed over the rehabilitated Government Science Secondary School, Koton-Karfe, Kogi State, following a N1.48 billion intervention facilitated by Senator Sunday Karimi, representing Kogi West.

The project, executed through the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), is among 50 senior secondary schools selected nationwide for upgrade under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Commissioning the project on Friday, NSSEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Iyela Ajayi, represented by Mr. Olugbenga Adelogun, said the initiative demonstrates government’s commitment to providing safe and modern learning environments.

“A school cannot deliver quality education without a safe and supportive environment. This is an investment in our children and their future,” he said, commending Senator Karimi for complementing government efforts.

Represented by retired Navy Commodore Folusho Daniel, Senator Karimi said the school is part of broader interventions he has facilitated across Kogi West in education, water, electricity and solar power.

He disclosed that he personally funded the rehabilitation of Titcombe College, Egbe, with N350 million and has concluded plans to build Computer-Based Test centres in Lokoja, Kabba, Mopa and Isanlu to ease UTME access.

Supervising Consultant, Mr. Emmanuel Egamana, said the project was executed by Messrs First Man Industry Link Limited in 24 weeks. It includes an administrative block with seven offices, six classrooms with 46 seats each, four science laboratories and four ICT laboratories for 48 students each, fully equipped and furnished, with inverter system, solar lights, borehole and overhead tank.

The Kogi State Senior Secondary Education Board Chairman, Mrs. Habiba Suleiman, thanked the Federal Government and sought more interventions.

Principal Inusa Dauda pledged judicious use of the facilities but appealed for perimeter fencing and more security personnel due to vulnerability to theft.

The Ohimege Igu of Koton-Karfe, HRM Dr. Saidu Akawu Salihu, represented at the event, and residents described the project as a timely milestone for science education in the district.
