FLOOD WREAKS HAVOC ON OMOBOJA FARM IN KABBA, KOGI STATE, WITH ESTIMATED LOSS OF ₦50 MILLION

A devastating flood has ravaged Omoboja Farm, a multi-million naira agricultural establishment owned by Hon. Abayomi Bello, situated along the Kabba-Okene road in Kabba district, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

After the flood

Heavy rainfall in the area caused the flood, which completely destroyed the farm, sweeping away crops and animals.

According to available information, the entirety of the farm has been affected, resulting in significant losses. Estimated damage stands at ₦50 million, although assessment is still ongoing.

The source further confirmed that the entire drainage and fence were completely damaged, while the factory roof was completely removed.

He said over 20,000 heaps of yams, rice, corn, and cassava plants were destroyed, more than 2,000 chickens were drowned and swept away.

The destruction of the farm is a significant blow to Hon. Yomi Bello’s agricultural endeavors and highlights the vulnerability of farms in the area to flooding.

Hon. Bello has appealed to governments at all levels to support them in the recovery process, emphasizing that the flood situation has threatened the food security of the area.

However, the recent flooding in Kabba metropolis, which has affected over 1000 households and claimed more than 2,500 domestic animals, underscores the need for effective flood control measures and support for affected farmers.
