Former Governor Ibrahim Idris Was A Pillar In Kogi’s History – Kogi Speaker

Lokoja, September 21, 2026 – The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, has expressed deep sadness over the passing of former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, who died on Sunday, September 20, 2026 in the United Kingdom at the age of 77.
In a condolence message issued on Monday in Lokoja, through his Chief Press Secretary, Yabagi Mohammed, the Speaker described the death of the former Governor, popularly known as Ibro, as a painful and monumental loss to Kogi State, Nigeria and the many people whose lives and public service were touched by his leadership.

Rt. Hon. Yusuf, who noted that Alhaji Idris occupies an important place in the political history of Kogi State, acknowledged his immense contributions to the development of the state during his tenure as Governor from 2003 to 2012.
He said the late former Governor demonstrated commitment to public service and to the growth and institutional evolution of the confluence state.
The Speaker extended his heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, his associates, the people of Kogi East, and the government and people of Kogi State, who have been thrown into mourning following the news of his demise.
He prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the late elder statesman, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and give his family, loved ones and all those mourning him across the state the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
“Alhaji Ibrahim Idris was an important figure in the history of our state. His passing is a painful moment for Kogi State.
“We pray that Almighty Allah grants him eternal rest and comforts his family, associates and all those mourning his departure,” the Speaker said.
