POHAN Mourns Former Kogi Governor Ibrahim Idris
The Public Office Holders Association of Nigeria (POHAN) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, who passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the age of 77.
In a condolence statement signed by its National President, Bashorun MD Eseyin, Ph.D., POHAN described the death of the former governor as a monumental loss to his family, Kogi State and the nation.
Alhaji Ibrahim Idris served as Governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2012, becoming one of the longest-serving civilian governors in the history of the state. He was popularly known as “Baba Kogi,” a name that reflected his prominent place in the political and public life of the state.
POHAN commended the late former governor for his contributions to public service and the development of Kogi State, noting that his years in office represented an important chapter in the developmental history of the state.

The association noted that the late governor’s administration recorded interventions in critical sectors, including infrastructure, education and healthcare, among others.
According to POHAN, as an association committed to promoting effective and efficient public service delivery, it acknowledges the legacy of public service left by the former governor and the impact of his years of service to the people of Kogi State.
The association extended its condolences to the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the state government and the people of Kogi State.
It also commiserated with the immediate family of the deceased, including his children, grandchildren, relatives, friends and associates, urging them to take solace in the memories of his years of service and the legacy he left behind.
POHAN prayed Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the late former governor, grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus and give his family, the government and people of Kogi State the fortitude to bear the loss.
The association prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the former governor.
