The former Governor of Delta State, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa CON, has received appreciation from Hon. Spencer O. Okpoye, the Commissioner representing the Ijaw ethnic nationality on the Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC). Hon. Okpoye expressed his gratitude to Dr. Okowa in a letter.

In his open letter, Hon. Okpoye began by congratulating Dr. Okowa on his remarkable victory in the Governorship Election and the State House of Assembly elections, as well as his successful administration as the Executive Governor of Delta State for eight years. He also praised the smooth transfer of power to the current Executive Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

Hon. Okpoye expressed his appreciation for the appointment, recalling a previous request he made to Dr. Okowa during the primary for the Warri North Local Government Council Chairmanship election. At that time, Hon. Smart Yomi Asekutu was considered the party’s candidate, and Hon. Okpoye was one of the contenders. Dr. Okowa had promised to consider him for a position when the new DESOPADEC Board would be inaugurated, and that promise has now been fulfilled.

Hon. Okpoye expressed his joy at the appointment, emphasizing the opportunity the platform has given him to serve and contribute to the development of his people and the state as a whole. He attributed his confidence in this role to Dr. Okowa’s leadership style, which has been characterized by the implementation of people-centric projects in the oil-producing communities.

Acknowledging Dr. Okowa’s courage and dedication to his decisions, Hon. Okpoye recognized that the appointment at the end of the former governor’s tenure showcased his unwavering character. He praised Dr. Okowa as someone who keeps his promises and thanked him for the opportunity to serve.

Hon. Okpoye expressed his gratitude to the political leadership of the Ijaw ethnic group and the people of Egbema kingdom, whom he represents. He assured Dr. Okowa of his prayers and support, and wished him success in the presidential election tribunal.

This appointment reflects the former governor’s commitment to inclusive governance and empowering individuals to contribute to the development of their communities. It is expected that Hon. Okpoye will bring his expertise and dedication to his new role, working towards the advancement of the oil-producing areas in Delta State.
