Future Leaders Must acquire Skills and Emotional intelligence: Prof. Izam.
The Former Vice Chancellor of Plateau state University,Bokkos.
Prof. Yohana D. Izam,called on the Youths and next generation of leaders to acquire inter-Disciplinary Skills and Emotional intelligence as sine qua non for a united and peaceful Society.
The Scholar, stated this in Jos, during the Weekend at the Plateau Progressives Youth Network Summit and Foundation Launching,held at the Nigerian Bible Translation Trust ( NBTT), with the theme: Empowering Plateau’s Future Leaders:Skills, Knowledge and Networking.
He said leadership is important and either can make or mar an organization,the holistic concept of leadership is influence, integrity and good behavior.
Leadership or future leaders is beyond acquisition of titles but how to navigate and foster inclusive environment.
On the Concept of Empowerment. The Professor explain it as the process that, encompasses acquisition of skills and robust networking and further stated that,leaders does not operate in isolation but network in different fields of human endeavors.
Izam describes concept of knowledge as the foundation of leadership and next generation of leaders must not only acquire the prerequisite knowledge but,also know how to apply it for the betterment of the society and as technological changes are occuring on daily basis, according to him,if you remain stagnant,so your progress will also be stagnated.

He admonishes the youths to strive and acquire skills, especially emotional intelligence skills as well as networking which is the strength of collaboration.
A call for Action,he urges for internal democracy in our political parties and safe spaces must be given to the Youths and Competent individuals to acquire leadership roles and positions.
He decried corruption,lack of unity among the Students and Youths organizations who are leaders of the next generation.
Prof.Izam recommended that,all hands must be on deck for empowering the teaming Youths by all and sundry,not only PPYN.
The Youth Should also deliberately develop road maps that are implementable at all levels and stratas of Government.
In his Presentation on the topic. Mentoring the Leaders of next generation,Former Member of the House of Representatives,Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency,Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos,represented by Victor Vincent Jatau.
Leadership plays a crucial role in the development of every society, if we don’t have good people and wise leaders in our society we awaits for a disaster.
But in Nigeria,we now have experimental and unprepared leaders.
He describes leadership as a space that is occupied by a leader and political party is just a vehicle, leadership is not a place of experiment but rather but a place for service and responsibility.
He wondered who’s wrongly mentoring Plateau Youths who are fun of abusing elders on social media.
The Guest Speaker said that one of the characteristics of leadership is good listening but the Youths only listen to respond not to develop themselves.
Reading is also important because,we read to develop new ideas but youths find it so hard to read and there is why they are purveyors of fake news.
He called on Youths to negotiate with our Elders and leaders who are not willing to leave leadership positions and create save spaces for the Youths.
It is important to mentor next generation leaders in order to preserve the next generation of leaders and our cultures.
The Third keynote address delivered by a renowned Pharmacist who is the Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency, Pharmacist Kim Jerry Bot speaks on the sub-theme: ” Youths and Health: Advocating For Healthy Lifestyle and a drug free Society and according to him,drug abuse is any substance that when absorbed into the body of a living thing or habitual use of drugs not needed for therapeutic purposes.
He gave some of the consequences and dangers of substance abuse as poor work decline in performance,sudden change in friends and associates, unexplained anxiety among others.
Plateau Progressives Youth Network (PPYN), is a non profit organization that aims to empower young people in Plateau state and the Network focuses on promoting youth development,leadership and Community engagements.
It is a youth focused Foundation,registered with the corporate Affairs Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with Rc:8053496. And the mission of the organization is to empower young people by fostering opportunities for growth through leadership and mentorship programs,promoting innovations and creativity as well as enhancing vocational and technical skills development.
The membership is voluntary and open to the indegenes and residents of Plateau state between the ages of of 15 and 45.
It operates under the Governance of a Board of Trustees,Supported by an Advisory Board and esteemed patrons, ensuring strategic leadership and guidance in achieving it’s vision.
The mission of PPYN is to create a platform for young people to come together,share ideas,and work collaboratively to drive positive change in their communities. The vision is to build vibrant and progressive youth community that is equipped to tackle the social, economic and environmental challenges facing Plateau state.
The organization is vast with the following objectives.
1. Empowerment: To empower the Youths of Plateau state with skills, knowledge and opportunities they need to take charge of their future and drive positive change in their Communities Socially and Economically.
2. Leadership: Leadership Training for Youths in Plateau state to develop a sense of responsibility,vision and the ability to influence others positively.
3. Civic Responsibilities: To instill through training a sense of civic duty in Plateau state Youths,encouraging active participation in community service and nation building activities.
4. Innovations: To encourage creativity and innovative thinking among Youths in Plateau state, empowering them to develop solutions to the challenges faced by their Communities.
Highlights of the occasion was the swearing in of the Local Government Coordinators by the Oath Commissioner,Barr. Zachariah Awang.
There was also freewill donations by the dignitaries to assist the Foundation.
Dignitaries from all walks of life graced the occasion.
