Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and immediate past Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic bandit attacks that struck parts of Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas, resulting in the killing of three persons and the abduction of several women and children.
In a statement signed by Muhammad Garba, former Chief of Staff to the APC National Chairman and former Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Dr. Ganduje described the attacks as “tragic, painful, and deeply distressing.” He said the violent raids represent not only a grave breakdown of security but also a direct assault on communal peace, stability, and the collective wellbeing of the affected communities.
Dr. Ganduje extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the residents of Tsanyawa, Shanono, Bangwai and other affected areas. He noted that beyond the immediate loss of life, the emotional and psychological trauma inflicted on the victims demands urgent humanitarian support, coordinated intervention, and deliberate action from all relevant authorities.
The former governor called on the Kano State Government to adopt proactive, intelligence-driven, and community-based security strategies, warning that the rising wave of insecurity in rural communities has reached “a worrisome dimension that cannot be ignored or downplayed.”
He urged the government to consider adopting successful security models implemented during his administration (2015–2023), which included strengthened local vigilance networks, multi-layered community policing, enhanced intelligence sharing, improved coordination with security agencies, and development-focused crime-prevention initiatives. He emphasized that these approaches significantly helped contain rural banditry, curb urban criminality, and maintain relative peace across the state during his tenure.
Dr. Ganduje also commended the governments of Niger, Kwara, Kebbi, and other states for their “effective and decisive handling of similar security challenges,” noting their timely interventions, cross-agency cooperation, and strong community engagement geared toward safeguarding lives and property.
Furthermore, he expressed appreciation for the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in strengthening the nation’s security architecture, modernizing the armed forces, and improving operational capacity across all security formations. He noted that the President’s ongoing reforms demonstrate “strong political will and a clear determination to secure the country.”
Dr. Ganduje urged the affected communities to remain calm but vigilant, and to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and actionable information that can prevent further attacks. He reiterated that addressing insecurity requires a collective effort, stressing that synergy among citizens, traditional institutions, government authorities, and security agencies remains crucial to defeating banditry and restoring lasting peace.
He assured the people of Tsanyawa, Shanono, and Bangwai that they are not alone in their grief, reaffirming that leaders and stakeholders at all levels are committed to supporting them and ensuring the security of their communities.
