Thousands Rally Behind ADC Senator as Marafa District Reaches Tournament Final
ZURU, KEBBI STATE – July 2026:- A large crowd of football lovers, community leaders, and youths from across Kebbi South Senatorial District gathered in Zuru Emirate to witness another exciting stage of the Garba Musa Maidoki Unity Football Tournament, a grassroots sporting initiative aimed at promoting youth development, peace, and unity through football.
The tournament, sponsored by Senator Garba Musa Maidoki of ADC, has become one of the biggest sporting events in the district, providing a platform for young football talents to showcase their skills while fostering friendship and healthy competition among communities.
Senator Maidoki, who recently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following widespread calls from his supporters and constituents, has continued to invest in programmes designed to empower young people and encourage peaceful coexistence.
Residents from various parts of Kebbi South used the tournament to publicly express their support for the senator and his political movement under the ADC.
One of the tournament’s most thrilling encounters saw the champions of Birnin Tudu (Matsiri District) face the formidable Marafa District team in a fiercely contested semi-final match.
After an entertaining display of football, Marafa District emerged victorious to book a place in the grand finale.
Matsiri District, despite their elimination, received widespread praise for their resilience, discipline, and impressive performance throughout the competition. Their spirited campaign earned them admiration from spectators and football enthusiasts alike.
Attention has now shifted to the highly anticipated final, where Marafa District will take on Mahuta District in what is expected to be an exciting championship clash scheduled for Thursday, 2 July 2026.
Beyond determining the tournament champions, the competition has also served as a talent identification programme, with exceptional players expected to receive further opportunities and recognition.
The organisers announced attractive prizes for both teams and outstanding individual performers. The tournament champions will receive a brand-new Daylong motorcycle, while the runners-up will be awarded ₦200,000. The third-placed team will receive ₦100,000, while the fourth-placed team will earn ₦50,000.
Individual excellence will also be recognised with cash awards of ₦10,000 each in the following categories:
Best Goalkeeper, Best Player, Highest Goal Scorer,
Best Linesman, Best Referee
and Best Coach.
These awards are intended to encourage excellence, discipline, and professionalism among young footballers and match officials across the senatorial district.
The event attracted several notable personalities, including the Special Guest of Honour, Hon. Dantani Ango Yellow, alongside prominent community leaders and dignitaries such as Alhaji Surajo Ahmad Neja, an aide to the Emir of Zuru; Mallam Abdullahi M. Tunbi; Mu’awiya Muhammad Maidoki; media practitioners Mallam Hassan Dabai and Mallam Lawal Alharoun; Alhaji Anass Sarkin Aski; Mallam Musa Dogo Zuru; Mallam Usman Makama Isgoggo, as well as many other respected stakeholders, traditional leaders, women, and youths from across Kebbi South.
Speaking during the event, participants commended Senator Garba Musa Maidoki for using sports as a tool for youth engagement, peacebuilding, and community development.
They described the tournament as an initiative that not only discovers football talents but also strengthens unity, creates opportunities for young people, and promotes lasting harmony across Kebbi South Senatorial District.
As anticipation builds ahead of the final match, football fans across the district are expected to turn out in large numbers to witness what promises to be a memorable conclusion to one of the region’s most celebrated grassroots football competitions.
