ABUJA — The Member representing Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Salman Idris, has been honoured with a prestigious award for outstanding contributions to infrastructure development.

The event, themed “Economic Reforms and Sustainable Development in a Democracy: The Nigerian Experience,” brought together top government officials, traditional rulers, captains of industry, and civil society leaders.

In his remarks after receiving the award, Hon. Idris commended the Management and Board of Democracy Newsline Newspaper for sustaining the platform for 16 years as a credible voice for accountability and good governance.

“I sincerely appreciate the board and management of Democracy Newsline Newspaper for this recognition. For 16 years, you have provided a platform to celebrate excellence and to challenge leaders to do more for the people. This award will encourage me to do even more for my constituency,” he said.

The lawmaker noted that his interventions in infrastructure were driven by the need to improve the quality of life of the people of Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu. He listed road rehabilitation, construction of classroom blocks, provision of solar streetlights, and facilitation of water projects among his constituency projects.

“Good infrastructure is the backbone of development. When our roads are good, when our schools are functional, and when our communities have basic amenities, then we can truly say democracy is working for the people,” Hon. Idris added.

The Publisher of Democracy Newsline Newspaper, Chief Olugbemi Femi, said Hon. Idris was selected for the award based on verifiable projects and his commitment to constituency development within a short time in office.

Other dignitaries inducted into the Good Governance Hall of Fame included the Hon. Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Hon. Asiwaju Idris Asiru, Senator Sunday Karimi, HRH Akogun Isiaq Ajibola, Chief Mrs. Moji Makanjuola, and other leaders across federal, state and local government levels.

The lecture featured a keynote address by the Kogi State Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Asiwaju Idris Asiru, who spoke on the theme of the day.
