Ibadan, Anambra & Abuja Food Charity Stampede, Dr. Aiyeku Olufemi Commiserate with Families that lost their loved ones
I’m compelled to express my heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims of the recent tragic stampedes across Nigeria.
The sheer loss of life, including vulnerable individuals like children and pregnant women, is a devastating blow to our nation.
Three separate incidents have left us reeling: the children’s Christmas carnival in Ibadan, where 35 lives were lost; the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Abuja, where at least 10 people died during a Christmas palliative distribution; and the rice distribution event in Okija, Anambra, which claimed over 22 lives.
In the face of such unimaginable tragedy, I implore President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider granting a presidential pardon to Queen Naomi Silekunola Ogunwusi, Oriyomi Hamzat, and others who were arrested in connection with these incidents. It’s clear that these individuals acted with the best of intentions, driven by a desire to care for the needy.
As we mourn the loss of these precious lives, I pray that God will bring comfort to the grieving families and loved ones. May He grant them the strength and resilience to bear this unbearable loss. I also pray that our leaders will take decisive action to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
Let us come together as a nation to support those affected by these tragedies. May we find solace in the words of Psalm 34:18, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” May God bless and comfort our nation during this difficult time.
