INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN to Receive “Excellent Public Service Leadership Award on Transparency 2026”
…Honour to Reflect on Anambra, Ekiti, Osun Guber Polls and National Assembly Bye-Elections

The National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, has been selected to receive the prestigious “EXCELLENT PUBLIC SERVICE LEADERSHIP AWARD ON TRANSPARENCY 2026” by Democracy Newsline Newspaper.
The award recognises Professor Amupitan’s commitment to transparency, electoral integrity, and institutional reforms that have deepened public trust in Nigeria’s electoral process.
Under his leadership, INEC has successfully conducted several off-cycle and bye-elections, including the governorship elections in Anambra and Ekiti States, the just concluded Osun State Governorship election, and multiple bye-elections into the National and State Houses of Assembly across the country.
The Commission has also prioritized the use of technology, timely deployment of materials, and improved voter education as part of efforts to ensure credible and transparent elections.
Announcing the honour, the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of the Newspaper, Chief Olugbemi Femi, said Professor Amupitan was nominated for demonstrating exemplary leadership and upholding the principles of transparency in public service.
“Professor Joash Amupitan has provided steady and transparent leadership at INEC during a critical period in our democracy. His dedication to free, fair, and credible elections has strengthened public confidence in the electoral process. This award is well deserved,” Chief Femi stated.
The award will be presented on Wednesday, 19th August, 2026 at 5:00pm during the Democracy Newsline Newspaper 16th Public Lecture and Induction into the Good Governance Hall of Fame holding at the Banquet Hall, National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.
The event marks the 27th Anniversary of Uninterrupted Democracy in Nigeria and is themed: “Economic Reform and Sustainable Development in a Democracy: The Nigeria Experience.”
A keynote address will be delivered by Mukadam Asiwaju Asiru Idris, FCA, Honourable Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Kogi State.
Chairperson of the occasion is Chief (Mrs) Moji Makanjuola, Veteran Broadcaster.
Special Guest of Honour is Hon. Mohammed Idris, Honourable Minister, Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation.
Patron is HRH Akogun Isiaq Ajibola, Former MD/CEO, Daily Trust Limited.
