CHIEF AKINOLA FAGBEMI TO RECEIVE “ICON OF YOUTH EMPOWERMENT AND PUBLIC SERVICE LEADERSHIP AWARD 2026”

A retired Director with the National Population Commission and currently serving with the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), Chief Akinola Benjamin Fagbemi has been selected to receive the prestigious “ICON OF YOUTH EMPOWERMENT AND PUBLIC SERVICE LEADERSHIP AWARD 2026” by Democracy Newsline Newspaper.
The award recognises Chief Fagbemi’s outstanding contributions to public service and his sustained commitment to youth empowerment, mentorship, and nation building.
Over the years, he has been credited with initiating capacity-building programmes, supporting young professionals in government and the private sector, and promoting values of integrity, diligence and service. His leadership style has inspired a new generation of public servants committed to transparency and accountability.

Announcing the honour, the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of the Newspaper, Chief Olugbemi Femi, said Chief Fagbemi was nominated for bridging the gap between experienced leadership and youth development in Nigeria.
“Chief Akinola Fagbemi is an icon in every sense. He has not only served the public with distinction but has also deliberately invested in the next generation of leaders. His legacy in public service and youth empowerment makes him most deserving of this award,” Chief Femi stated.
The award will be presented on Wednesday, 19th August, 2026 at 5:00pm during the _Democracy Newsline Newspaper 16th Public Lecture and Induction into the Good Governance Hall of Fame holding at the Banquet Hall, National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.
The event marks the 27th Anniversary of Uninterrupted Democracy in Nigeria and is themed: “Economic Reform and Sustainable Development in a Democracy: The Nigeria Experience.”
A keynote address will be delivered by Mukadam Asiwaju Asiru Idris, FCA, Honourable Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Kogi State.
Chairperson of the occasion is Chief (Mrs) Moji Makanjuola, Veteran Broadcaster.
Special Guest of Honour is Hon. Mohammed Idris, Honourable Minister, Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation.
Patron is HRH Akogun Isiaq Ajibola, Former MD/CEO, Daily Trust Limited.
Grand Patron is Hon. Durosinmi Meseko, Former Member, Federal House of Representatives.
