The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Yobe State Chapter, has commended the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YSIEC) for conducting free, fair, credible, and acceptable local government elections across the state. This was disclosed by the Chairman of IPAC, Umar Adamu Jajere, during an interview with selected journalists on Sunday, December 1, 2024, in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
Jajere hailed the elections, held across the 17 local government areas of the state between May and June, as among the most credible in the state’s history. He described the process as one of the fairest elections ever conducted, noting that the electorate conducted themselves peacefully despite their diverse political affiliations.
“The local government elections were free, fair, and credible,” he said. “There was no rancor across the 17 local government areas, and everyone performed their duties peacefully. The election results were duly accepted by all participating political parties, which is a testament to its credibility.”
He urged the 17 newly elected local government chairmen to deliver the dividends of democracy to the grassroots. “As the closest tier of government, you are expected to formulate policies and implement programs that will positively impact and improve the lives of the people in your respective areas,” Jajere stated.
He further advised the newly elected officials to prioritize fairness and justice in their leadership. “The elections are over, and you are now leaders for all. Be fair and just to everyone, and focus on delivering development to every corner of the state. The Almighty Allah has chosen you for this responsibility, not because you are better than others, but because it pleases Him. Use this opportunity to serve diligently,” he added.
Jajere also commended the efforts of Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, security agencies, stakeholders, and other political parties for their support in ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process. “The election was transparent, free, and fair. We are happy with the results, and I believe everyone else is too. We met with all our IPAC members and agreed to accept the outcome of the elections before the official announcement,” he said.
Reacting to a malicious and fabricated circular circulating on social media calling for the cancellation of the elections, the IPAC Chairman dismissed the claims as baseless. “The alleged circular is entirely false and without merit. The election was fair and credible,” he emphasized.
Jajere called on all residents of Yobe State to disregard such fake news and continue their normal activities. He urged the public to remain vigilant against misinformation and to verify any information through credible sources before sharing.
In conclusion, Jajere reaffirmed Yobe State IPAC’s commitment to promoting and protecting the rights and interests of the people. “We remain committed to ensuring the continued development and progress of our state,” he said.
