Kabba-Odo Ape Road Crash: Kogi Govt Commiserates With Victims’ Families, Cautions Against Reckless Driving
By Our Correspondent
The Kogi State Government has expressed deep sadness over the fatal road crash that claimed the lives of six persons along the Kabba–Odo Ape Road in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of the state.
The government, while commiserating with the families and communities of the deceased, also wished the two persons who sustained injuries in the accident a speedy and full recovery.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, conveyed the condolences of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo in a statement issued on Sunday, describing the incident as painful and unfortunate.
The crash, which occurred on Saturday, involved a truck and a commercial vehicle. According to the Federal Road Safety Corps, six persons died in the accident while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The remains of the deceased were subsequently deposited at the General Hospital, Kabba.
Fanwo said Governor Ododo shares in the grief of the affected families and communities, praying God to grant eternal rest to the deceased and give their loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
The Commissioner urged motorists to exercise greater caution while travelling, particularly as the FRSC identified speeding as a contributing factor to the crash.
He warned that reckless driving, dangerous overtaking and driving while fatigued could turn routine journeys into tragic incidents.
Fanwo also called on the Federal Road Safety Corps to intensify enforcement against over-speeding on highways across Kogi State, while strengthening public enlightenment and roadside monitoring to discourage motorists from violating speed limits.
According to him, stronger enforcement and continuous sensitisation would complement the efforts of the FRSC and other stakeholders in reducing road crashes and protecting lives.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Kogi State Government to working with relevant agencies to improve road safety and ensure greater protection for road users across the state.
Fanwo appealed to motorists to make safety their priority, stressing that no destination is worth risking human lives.
He further urged all road users to observe traffic regulations, exercise patience and demonstrate responsibility while using the highways.
The Commissioner wished the injured victims a full and speedy recovery and prayed for strength and comfort for the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy.
