The Kaduna State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has announced that the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, will be the guest speaker at this year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Public Lecture.
The event, scheduled to hold on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Stonehedge Hotel in Kaduna, will feature the minister delivering a keynote address on the topic: “Tax Reform: The Role of Public Relations in Fostering Constructive Dialogue for National Economic Renaissance.”
In a statement issued by the Chapter’s Chairman, Haroun Malami, it was revealed that the theme for this year’s event was chosen in response to the debates sparked by the federal government’s tax reform bills currently before the National Assembly.
Malami noted that the Chapter, as a key player in public communication, recognized its duty to provide a platform for dialogue on issues of national importance. “Our role as public relations practitioners extends beyond corporate advocacy. It includes fostering understanding and engagement on policies that affect the everyday lives of Nigerians. This year’s AGM and Public Lecture aim to contribute meaningfully to the ongoing conversation about tax reform,” he said.
The event will feature a robust lineup of speakers and discussants. The Lead Discussant will be Prof. Mustapha Bagudo Muhammad, the Head of Accounting Department at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Additionally, a distinguished panel comprising Human Rights Activist Senator Shehu Sani, Prof. Cosmas Eze from the Department of Mass Communication, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and Prof. Hauwa’u Evelyn Yusuf of Kaduna State University, will delve deeper into the issues raised by the minister’s paper.
The Chapter also disclosed that the event will be broadcast live on major radio and television networks across the country, ensuring a broader reach and facilitating public engagement.
This year’s AGM/Public Lecture underscores the critical role of public relations in shaping national discourse and promoting constructive engagement between policymakers and the public, particularly on issues as transformative and sensitive as tax reform.
