Kogites in diaspora say EFCC making mockery of fight against corruption
A cross section of Kogi State indigenes in the diasporas under the auspices of Kogites in Diasporas, have taken a swipe at the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), over the way and manner it is handling the fight against corruption.
Leader of the group, Ogirima Abdulazeez and his Secretary, Bidemi Folorunsho, accused the agency of being selective in its fight against corruption and this, they said, is making a mockery of the fight against corruption.
Citing the case involving the former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the group maintained that it is obvious that the agency has personal grouse with the former Governor, adding that the whole world is watching.
It recalled that even before the former Governor left office, the agency was engaged in running battle with him, a development, the group said, signalled that the ex-Governor had been a target for long.
It said, “we noticed that his travail started as soon as he mooted the idea to run for the presidency. First, it started with alleged depositing of part of the bailout fund in a dedicated account with one of the commercial banks and now, it is about N82 billion. Where is all of this coming from?
“If the former Governor alone took such whooping money, where did he get the money to build roads, hospitals, tackle insecurity, develop infrastructure and pay salaries?
“For us, what we see is a calculated attempt to destroy him politically and let us ask a salient question – to what end? The EFCC must come clean on this.
“In saner climes, Yahaya Bello will be celebrated. We are in touch with development back at home and we say without any fear of contradiction that our state fared better under this man.”
The body advised the Anti-graft agency to redeem its image by refusing to be used to settle political scores, noting that, “these selective actions will not help the agency’s image.”
