Legend Dr. Femi Olubiyo Sympathizes with Flood Victims in Kabba/Bunu, Reiterates Okun Legend Club’s Commitment to Regional Development

In the aftermath of the devastating flood disaster that ravaged parts of Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, the President of the Okun Legend Club of Okunland, Legend Dr. Femi Olubiyo, has extended heartfelt sympathy to all affected individuals and communities, describing the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy that demands urgent humanitarian response and long-term regional planning.
The flood, which displaced hundreds of families, destroyed homes, churches, farmlands, and claimed the lives of thousands of domestic animals, has plunged several communities into hardship and uncertainty.
In a statement released on behalf of the Okun Legend Club a development-focused organization made up of influential sons and daughters of Okunland, Legend Dr. Olubiyo expressed deep sorrow over the extent of the destruction and empathized with the victims.
> “We are deeply saddened by the suffering caused by this flood. Our thoughts and prayers are with every household that has lost property, livelihoods, and peace of mind. As a people-oriented group, the Okun Legend Club stands in solidarity with all affected,” he said.
Okunland, comprising over five local government areas in Kogi State, is known for its rich culture, industrious population, and strong communal values. The Okun Legend Club, under the leadership of Legend Dr. Femi Olubiyo, has consistently championed initiatives aimed at the development, unity, and prosperity of the region.
Speaking further, Dr. Olubiyo called on relevant government agencies, disaster response bodies, and well-meaning individuals to act swiftly by delivering relief materials, medical assistance, and post-disaster rehabilitation support to affected areas in Kabba/Bunu and beyond.
> “This disaster reminds us of the urgent need for collaborative efforts between community stakeholders and government institutions. The safety of our people must never be compromised,” he stated.
He also advocated for long-term environmental planning across Okunland, emphasizing the importance of:
Constructing modern drainage and water management systems
Implementing community-based climate resilience programs
Promoting afforestation and erosion control measures
> “We must treat this disaster not only as a crisis but also as a call to action. It’s time to invest in preventive infrastructure and strengthen our emergency response capacity across all Okun-speaking LGAs,” he concluded.
