ABUJA, October 22, 2025 – The Chief Executive Officer of the Memunat Single Mother and Child Initiative, Mrs. Memunat Idulah, has called on governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the general public to show greater support and empathy toward single parents across Nigeria.
Mrs. Idulah made this passionate appeal during her address at a conference held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the Conference Hall of the National Human Rights Commission in Maitama, Abuja. The event was themed “Invisible But Not Inconsequential: Shedding Light on the Socio Cultural,Economic and Legal Realities of Single Parenthood in Nigeria.”
The conference, which aimed to bring attention to the often-overlooked challenges faced by single parents, especially women, drew a diverse audience. Attendees included top government officials, representatives from NGOs and civil society organizations, single parents, and other concerned stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Idulah emphasized the need for inclusive policies and support systems that can empower single parents to raise their children in a stable and secure environment. She stressed that the struggles of single parents are real and must be acknowledged both socially and legislatively.
“Single parents are often treated as invisible in policy discussions, yet their realities affect a significant portion of our society,” she said. “It’s time to move from sympathy to action”.
