The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) recently held a crucial meeting with licensed Hajj tour operators to discuss operational improvements for the 2025 Hajj season. Chaired by Commissioner of Operations, Prince Anofi Elegushi, several key issues were addressed to ease the burden on operators and enhance the pilgrimage experience for Nigerian pilgrims.
One major decision was the reduction of the caution deposit for tour operators from N50 million to N40 million, offering financial relief. In addition, the registration deadline for the 2025 Hajj was extended by one week, giving operators extra time to fulfill the necessary requirements.
Prince Elegushi also announced that Saudi authorities have reduced the number of lead companies coordinating Hajj operations from 40 to 20, a change that will impact the overall structure for 2025. Operators were advised to prepare for this adjustment.
NAHCON further addressed concerns regarding refunds for unrendered services in previous Hajj seasons, assuring that efforts to secure these refunds are ongoing. Additionally, the commission invited companies seeking a refund of their caution deposit to formally apply.
Regarding bank guarantees, NAHCON is aligning policies with international standards to safeguard the welfare of pilgrims, reducing risks for all involved.
Lastly, on Umrah services, NAHCON has engaged the Saudi Ministry of Hajj to address pending issues. A high-powered delegation will soon visit Saudi Arabia to seek resolutions.
The meeting ended with a question-and-answer session, where concerns were thoroughly discussed, and NAHCON reaffirmed its commitment to improving the Hajj experience for Nigerian pilgrims.
