NAUS Raises Alarm Over Worsening Insecurity, Calls Immediate Action

In a decisive move to confront the rising wave of insecurity in Nigeria, the Office of the National Vice President of the National Association of University Students (NAUS), North Central Zone, convened a Peace and Security Summit in Abuja.
The summit, held at the Nigeria National Merit Award House in Maitama, brought together participants from diverse sectors across the country, reflecting a collective commitment to addressing the nation’s security challenges.
Notable attendees included Hon.Pharm. John Exekiel Chun,Jibrin Samuel Okutepa, Hajiya Ramatu Ibrahim, Director of Contact and Mobilisation for the City Boy Movement (CBM), North Central; Ishaya Lulu, who represents Bokkos/Mangu Federal Constituency; and Olusola Odumosu, represented by his deputy. A representative from the Public Relations Office of the Nigeria Customs Service was also in attendance.
In her opening remarks, the convener and NAUS National Vice President, Comrade Nerat Blessing Henry, expressed appreciation for the strong turnout. She noted that the wide participation underscored a shared resolve to find sustainable solutions to insecurity and to bridge the religious and ethnic divides threatening national unity.
Speaking with journalists, Comrade Nerat Henry called on the Federal Government to adopt more proactive and preventive strategies in addressing insecurity. She described the North Central region as increasingly becoming a “theatre of human slaughter,” citing recent attacks in Plateau State where more than forty people were reportedly killed by unidentified assailants.
She further highlighted the devastating impact of insecurity on education, noting that academic activities in universities and student communities have been severely disrupted due to recurring violence.
