operations in Egbema Kingdom Warri North Local Government Area, Delta State.

Comrade Mike Tiemo, a respected humanitarian advocate and community development leader, stated that it has become necessary to correct “distortions, half-truths, and unverified submissions” recently released by an NGO which does not reflect the Opuama, Polobubo, Tsekelewu communities nor the general Oloduwa people’s opinion.

“The recent publication credited to an NGO do not denote the devastating situation and negative effect on our communities. They do not represent our experiences, our challenges, or the actual ESG interventions currently ongoing within OML 40,” Mike Tiemo said.

He emphasized that as one deeply involved in grassroots peacebuilding and humanitarian efforts, he cannot allow misinformation to overshadow the developmental neglect taking place under the present operational frameworks.

Comrade Mike Tiemo explained that while the region still suffers from decades-long pollution — much of which dates back to the era of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) While the the new operators NNPC Limited, Ecrest E & P Limited,, and Associates have also created more damages and pollution to the entire Oloduwa 97 Host Communities not restricted only to Opuama, Tsekelewu and Polobobou Communities in Egbema Kingdom , Warri North LGA Area of Delta state.

“We must assert that the endemic pollution of past and current spills have contributed adversely to the environmental degradation witnessed today therefore in pursuant to the recent publication the truth must be acknowledged for any objective discussion that constitutionally assets and liability are inherited by the new operators as aforementioned,” he stressed.

Contrary to the portrayal in recent publications, the humanitarian leader noted that Polobubo, Tsekelewu, Opuama, and surrounding communities are in deep conflict with the present operators of OML 40. because of their refusal to do the needful and we are in different courts for Justice to prevail on unresolved vital and Paramount issues.

He pointed out that they went to High Court and Federal High sometime in 2019 in Delta state in respect of non compliance in the Provision of basic amenities, poor employment and absence of graduate employment as direct staff, above the over 3500, workforce , refusal to compensate payment for oil spill caused by technical and equipment failure of the operators, failure for the payment of general and special damages, lack of Scholar Ward, failure for the establishment of GMOU since the commencement of the operations in 2013 to 2021) before the establishment and enactment of the controversial PIA in 2022 , the denial and marginalization of the Oloduwa 95 Communities by dealing with only Opuama and Tsekelewu which is not in accordance with the meeting and resolution reached sometime in 2016 at the instances of the Delta state Government, the operators and the communities representatives.

Comrade Mike Tiemo recalled that since the commencement of their operations, the source of livelihood of the host communities , inhabitants ,has been jeopardized and lost .

He called on NGOs, media organisations, and civil society groups to verify information with recognised community leadership before going public.

“Our communities are not opposed to advocacy — we welcome it. But advocacy must be grounded in truth, objectivity, and proper consultation without bias. Anything short of that is a disservice to the struggle for a cleaner, safer, and more developed Egbema kingdom.

He retrospected that sometime in 2023, OML 30 With 112 Communities,100 massive projects were executed by the same operator former NPDC now NNPC Limited, and the projects were all commissioned by the State Governor
His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori.

The Peace Development Security and Humanitarian Rights Association in conjunction with the Egbema communities Peace Development and Humanitarian Rights Association reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency, Development ,environmental justice, and peaceful coexistence between oil operators and host communities in sync with the PIA.

Tiemo therefore called on the settlors to address the vital and boiling issues on ground as aforesaid.
