NIGER STATE GOVERNMENT RECORDS TREMENDOUS ACHIEVEMENT IN THE GAVI SUPPORTED PHC SYSTEM STRENGTHENING PROJECT.
Niger State Governor Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago said the State Government has recorded tremendous achievement in the Close out programme of the Niger State GAVI supported PHC System strengthening program which is aimed at improving healthcare provision in primary healthcare centres.
Farmer Umaru Bago stated this during the close out meeting he held with the development partners of the program at the Niger State Governor’s Lodge Abuja.
He highlighted some remarkable achievements in the programme which include reduction in under-5 mortality from 98 /1000 cases to 49/1000 cases in 2018, reduction in mortality rate from 57/1000 to 3/1000 live births, reduced neonatal/mortality from 29/1000 to 22/1000.
The State also recorded an increase in ANC uptake by 35%, enrolled 355,804 women in 2024 compared to 232,495 for the same period in 2022.
Two thousand eight hundred and fifty seven women have their deliveries conducted by a Skilled Birth Attendant in 2024 as against 36,251 in 2022 as well as achieved a 5%-point increase in fully Immunized children from 23.5% in 2018 to 28.3% in 2024
Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago said his administration will continue to maintain a sustainable approach aimed at improving quality healthcare services in all Primary Healthcare centres across the State.
UNICEF Representative in Nigeria, Cristian Munduate who was represented by the Chief of Child Protection UNICEF, Ibrahim Sesay disclosed that the GAVI supported PHC system strengthening project signed three years ago with the Niger State Government will be ending by March this year, stating that the project is targeted at providing equitable access to healthcare services
The Chief of Health UNICEF Nigeria Dr. Shyam Pathak who acknowledged the efforts of Farmer Umaru Bago called for more sustained efforts in addressing issues related to immunization , birth registration and nutrition .
