NIGER STATE GOVERNMENT WONT COMPROMISE IN PROVIDING LEADERSHIP IN AGRICULTURE..
Niger State Governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has said that lhis government will not compromise in making sure that it provides leadership role in the agricultural sector.
The farmer Governor stated this at a Dinner/Gala night organised for members of the Presidential Livestock Reforms Committee held at the Hauwa Wali multipurpose hall, Government House Minna.
Farmer Umaru Bago said Niger State government will continue to take the lead in agricultural transformation saying, the State understands its strength in terms of land mass, bodies of water and large congregation of cattle.
He revealed that the State Government understands the cycle between crop production, animal husbandry and fishery and stressed on the significance of the eco system that can create wealth for the state and the Country
He equally disclosed that a 3,000 hectare of land for livestock production is in progress where series of feed lots and barns will be established with production to begin from Tagwai dam and as well take advantage of the Shiroro Dam where 1 billion litres of water will be transported daily to the Airport City project through irrigation.
Co-Chairman Presidential Livestock Reforms Committee, Prof. Attahiru Jega appreciated farmer Governor Bago for the warm reception accorded the Committee and acknowledged the farmer Governor’s drive in repositioning the livestock sector and added that, the Committee is very impressed about what it saw in all farms visited.
Prof. Jega thereby expressed believe in the capability of the farmer Governor through his commitment and passion for agriculture development describing him as one of those who will be in the lead bringing about sustainable livestock reform process.
He said, the livestock sector has been neglected for long but the federal government is ready to unlock the sector which informed its decision to partner with State and local government areas including other critical stakeholders as that is the only way for livestock sustenance.
The Secretary to the Niger State Government, Abubakar Usman said working visit embarked upon by the Livestock Committee will afford ample opportunities for sharing of ideas that will propel the State to an enhanced level in terms of livestock development.
The event featured various cultural displays and dances by Gwape cultural Troupe and the Sibombo musical group.
