The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has taken a significant step towards enhancing national security by deploying a new border management system that utilizes advanced technology to profile individuals traveling to Nigeria.
According to the Comptroller General of the NIS, Kemi Nandap, this system enables the service to know and properly profile individuals before they arrive in the country, thereby improving national security.
She said the system uses interactive advanced passenger information and passenger name record technology to profile travelers, and pointed out that the system provides real-time updates on movements across the borders.
CG Kemi said migrants entering the country through land borders from ECOWAS neighboring countries are registered at numerous control posts.
According to her, the NIS is prioritizing community engagement and outreach to strengthen relationships with border communities and enhance collaboration, intelligence gathering, and security at the borders.
The service is also conducting a target-based recruitment process, where community leaders are asked to recommend credible sons and daughters from their communities to join the NIS.
