Senate Pledges Support to Nigerian Army to Boost National Security
The Nigerian Senate has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the Nigerian Army to strengthen national security.
This assurance was given during an oversight visit to Army Headquarters in Abuja on July 31, 2025, by Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army.
The Senate pledged to work closely with the Nigerian Army and the executive arm of government to ensure the Army receives necessary support to maintain peace and stability across the country.
Senator Yar’Adua commended the Army’s operational efficiency and project implementation under the leadership of Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede.
Lt Gen Oluyede highlighted key challenges facing the Army, including inadequate accommodation for troops and logistical shortfalls, and called for increased budgetary allocation to meet the Army’s operational and welfare requirements.
The Army Chief urged lawmakers to consider removing the Army from the current envelope budgeting system to address pressing needs.
Senator Yar’Adua emphasized that the visit aimed to ensure effective utilization of public funds and monitoring of projects captured in the approved budgets.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritizing national security and assured that the Senate would continue to support the military in fulfilling its constitutional mandate.
The Nigerian Army faces several challenges, including Insufficient accommodation for troops, Limited operational assets and other logistical constraints, the current system limits flexibility in addressing urgent needs.
