NITP Kogi Unveils 2026/2027 Agenda, Inaugurates Committees to Strengthen Urban Planning

The Kogi State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) has unveiled its programme of activities for the 2026/2027 professional year and inaugurated standing committees to strengthen the administration of the Chapter and advance professional practice in the state.

The decisions were reached at the Chapter’s monthly general meeting held in Lokoja, where members also appointed Tpl. Salihu-Otaru Kehinde Augustine, Director-General of the Kogi State Bureau of Lands, as Chairman of the Practice and Ethics Committee. The committees are expected to drive key aspects of the Institute’s activities throughout the professional year.

Speaking at the meeting, the State Chairman of the Institute, **Tpl. Sani Daniel, FNITP**, described the new programme as a strategic roadmap for promoting professional excellence, institutional collaboration, public advocacy and efficient service delivery.

According to him, the calendar of activities includes capacity-building programmes, public enlightenment campaigns, stakeholder engagements, professional visits and community outreach initiatives aimed at fostering orderly and sustainable physical development across Kogi State.

“The programme is designed to strengthen the capacity of our members while deepening collaboration with government, communities and other stakeholders. Through these activities, we hope to contribute meaningfully to sustainable urban development and improved physical planning across the state,” Daniel said.

The Chairman charged members of the newly inaugurated committees to discharge their responsibilities with dedication, professionalism, transparency and teamwork. He stressed that the success of the Chapter would depend on the commitment and active participation of all members, urging them to support the leadership in achieving the Institute’s objectives.

Daniel further reaffirmed the Chapter’s readiness to partner with the Kogi State Government and other relevant stakeholders in promoting sustainable urban renewal, effective physical planning, development control and environmental management. “As professionals, we have a responsibility to provide technical support and practical solutions that will enhance orderly development and improve the quality of life of our people,” he added.

Members commended the leadership of the Chapter for providing a clear vision for the new professional year and pledged their full support for the implementation of the programmes. They expressed confidence that the newly inaugurated committees would enhance the Chapter’s effectiveness, strengthen professional ethics and contribute to the growth and relevance of the Institute in Kogi State.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by members to uphold the ideals of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners and to continue promoting planned, resilient and sustainable human settlements in Kogi State and across Nigeria.
