NSCDC Commissions New Divisional Office in Epe-Opin, Kwara State

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community safety and curb rising security concerns across Kwara State, the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Umar Mohammed, on Monday, 19th January 2026, commissioned a new divisional office in Epe-Opin, Ekiti Local Government Area.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Commandant Umar explained that the increasing security concerns within communities made it imperative to upgrade the former outpost to a fully functional divisional command.
He noted that the new division will enhance operational response, deepen collaboration with community stakeholders, and significantly deter criminal activities in the area.
“This new division stands as a strategic investment in the safety of our people. It strengthens our capacity to prevent crime, respond promptly, and ensure that peace and stability remain non-negotiable in all communities under our watch.” He noted
The Commandant Umar expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Chairman of Ekiti Local Government, Hon. Awelewa Olawale Gabriel, describing his unwavering support and commitment to security as exemplary.
He emphasized that the Chairman’s cooperation reflects a clear understanding that safeguarding communities is a shared duty.
In his remarks, Hon. Awelewa Olawale Gabriel commended the leadership of the command for prioritizing the safety of Ekiti communities.
He assured continued support to initiatives that promote peace and foster mutual cooperation between security agencies and local authorities.
Also speaking, His Royal Majesty, Oba Alabi Gabriel Odeniyi, the Elepe of Epe-Opin land, applauded the NSCDC for its tireless efforts in safeguarding the region. He emphasized that the presence of a fully operational division would strengthen the traditional institution’s collaboration with security operatives in addressing local security concerns.
Similarly, the Kwara State APC Chairman, Chief Sunday Adeniran Fagbemi, described the initiative as timely and commendable. He noted that the new division will not only deter criminal activities but will also build public confidence in government’s commitment to protecting citizens across the state.
