NUKPIS COMMUNITY REHABILITATES ROAD AFTER YEARS OF NEGLECT AND ABANDONMENT BY FCMTLT JOS
By Peter Azi – Jos
Nukpis Community in Jos, which hosts several federal institutions, has embarked on the rehabilitation of its only access road after years of neglect and abandonment by the Federal College of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology, Jos.
Nukpis is the host community to the Federal College of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology, Jos University Teaching Hospital, College of Medicine, University of Jos, and the National Film Institute. Yet the community continues to suffer hardships, mainly due to lack of access roads and other basic infrastructure.
The only major road linking the community to the Federal College of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology is now an eyesore and is no longer motorable.
As a result of the terrible condition of the road, the community approached JUTH, which responded by donating trips of sand and laterite to enable the community to fix the deplorable road, particularly culverts and drainages.
Despite the fact that the Provost’s institution is a direct beneficiary of the road, as both staff and students access it daily, he has refused to partner with the community to fix it.
In 2021, the community wrote to the then Minister of Health to assist with the access road. In 2022, the sum of N18 million was earmarked for the project. However, the college has not executed the project to date, despite efforts to persuade it to construct the road.
The community is now calling on the relevant authorities to prevail on the Provost to execute the project and carry out other corporate social responsibilities to the host community.
On Saturday, community members trooped out to begin fixing the road, with work scheduled to continue next Saturday.
