Ohanaeze Begs Tinubu For More Ministerial Slots, Extols Umahi, Wike

Ben Nworie

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to consider allocation of more ministerial slots to the south east region.

In a statement issued by the Secretary General of the organisation, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the apex body extended its gratitude to President Tinubu’s administration for appointing such capable individuals as Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike.

Isiguzoro also expressed enthusiasm and optimism about the bilateral agreements signed between the Nigerian and Chinese governments during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s transformative official visit to China, adding that it was a courageous and strategic step towards alleviating the economic hardships faced by Nigerians.

According to them: “We are particularly taken with one of the critical agreements centered around infrastructural development. With the envisioned support of the Chinese government, we believe that the “Renewed Hope Infrastructure Revolution,” spearheaded by the astute Senator David Umahi as Minister of Works, holds the potential to revitalize all sectors of the economy”.

“We are confident that, if fully actualized, Nigerians will witness transformative infrastructural advancements, including quality road networks boasting durability that spans four decades before the year 2027. This is an endeavor that resonates with the hopes and aspirations of our people”.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo takes this opportunity to extend its gratitude to President Tinubu’s administration for appointing such capable individuals as Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike. We therefore urge the esteemed President to retain them in their current portfolios ahead of the anticipated cabinet reshuffling on October 1, 2024”.

Ohanaeze further commended Umahi for his dedication to professionalism and has championed President Tinubu’s interests within the Southeast through established and effective channels.

“We commend him for his crucial role in fostering a cooperative relationship between the President’s administration and the Southeast region, especially as evident in the region’s notable abstinence during the recent nationwide hunger protests from August 1 to 10. The ongoing infrastructural revolution and federal road projects stand as testaments to the fruitful partnership between the Southeast and the Federal Government facilitated by Senator Umahi”.

“As we collectively approach this pivotal moment, Ohanaeze Ndigbo hereby issues a resounding Vote of Confidence in the leadership and capabilities of Senator Umahi and Barr Wike. They are regarded as indispensable pillars supporting President Tinubu’s administration over the past 14 months”, the group added.

They urged President Tinubu to retain both ministers in their esteemed positions as w their continued services would further enhance the trajectory of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
