Olorunsuwa Thanks Supporters Over Arrest, Vows to Continue Advocacy for Kogi West Governorship
Chief Elijah Olorunsuwa has expressed appreciation to individuals, political leaders, youths and traditional rulers who stood by him and intervened following his recent arrest by the Nigerian Police.
Olorunsuwa, in a statement titled “Note of Appreciation on My Arrest by the Nigerian Police on the Order of Jerry Omodara,” said he was deeply grateful to everyone who spoke out against what he described as his unlawful arrest at his residence in Ilorin at about 5:30am.
He said his arrest was connected to a WhatsApp post he made concerning the rehabilitation of the Olle–Iluke Road, which he alleged was being used as a means of settling political scores and intimidating him because of his support for Senator Sunday Karimi.

Olorunsuwa said the solidarity he received from individuals and groups during the incident demonstrated courage and commitment to democratic values.
He specifically appreciated Senator Sunday Karimi, Hon. Duro Meseko, Dr. Elebiyo Joseph, Prof. Omotola, Engr. Ibishaga, Chief Monday Job Sesere Job, Chief Dare Yomi Johnson, Pastor Timi Aroniyo, Hon. James Faleke, Engr. George-Olumoroti Olusola Olumoroti, Prince Jibowu Mosiko and Mr. Segun Olusegun Iselaiye for their interventions and support.
He also expressed gratitude to some royal fathers who, according to him, intervened in his favour, explaining that their names would be withheld for obvious reasons.
Olorunsuwa equally commended what he described as “young Okun guys” who spoke out against his arrest and helped bring the incident to public attention.
He mentioned Anjie Nishola Kinrin, Ejiwumi Omolade Tobi, Mikky Oladapo, Cephas Alepa, Jeremiah Godwin and Sunday Aliu, among others, whom he said played key roles in securing his release.
According to him, the courage displayed by the youths gives him confidence in the future of Okunland.
He said: “You have demonstrated nobility, courage and fearlessness. God bless you for your unconditional patriotism and courage.”
The community advocate also thanked the many people whose names could not be mentioned, saying their prayers, telephone calls, messages and public interventions meant a lot to him and his family.
Olorunsuwa said the experience had not weakened his resolve to continue advocating good governance, equity and equality in Kogi State.
He reiterated his commitment to issues surrounding the 2027 governorship election, saying he would continue to speak out on what he considers right for the people of the state.
He also declared his continued support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Sunday Karimi, while reaffirming his position that the governorship of Kogi State should rotate to Kogi West in 2027.
Olorunsuwa further alleged that the incident represented an attempt by what he described as an overzealous political appointee to exercise political influence and intimidate him.
Despite the development, he said his resolve remained unshaken.
He added: “I shall continue to speak truth to power. I promise to continue to work tirelessly for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Senator Sunday Karimi, and I shall continue to speak out on the need to rotate power to Kogi West in 2027.”
He concluded by thanking all those who stood with him during the period, describing their support as a source of encouragement to continue his advocacy.
