OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY, PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU, GCFR
By Bala Salihu Dawakin Kudu
2nd November 2025
Your Excellency,
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR
President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces,
Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Your Excellency Sir,
With the highest respect and profound regard for your leadership, I write to humbly draw your attention to the urgent security challenges facing our dear nation and to respectfully present a recommendation rooted in national interest, competence, and the collective voice of many concerned Nigerians.
Nigeria today continues to confront severe security threats across various regions. Communities in several states—including Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Kogi, Kaduna, Borno, Zamfara, Plateau, Benue, and Katsina—have endured the devastating impacts of banditry and terrorism. These challenges require not only military strength, but also strategic dialogue, cultural understanding, and experienced leadership.
It is in this context that many Nigerians have expressed the view that Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, CON, former Governor of Kano State, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the current Chairman of FANN, could play a meaningful role in supporting your administration’s efforts to restore peace and stability.
Your Excellency, Dr. Ganduje is widely recognized as a seasoned administrator with decades of experience in public service. His exposure, relationships, and deep understanding of various pastoral communities across Nigeria and beyond have been acknowledged by many. It is a matter of public record that he once served as Chairman of the Fulani Cultural Association (Pulako) in Africa in 2014, a position that broadened his network with traditional leaders and community figures in the sub-region.
During his eight-year tenure as Governor of Kano State, when early signs of insecurity began to threaten the state, Dr. Ganduje engaged relevant community leaders, traditional authorities, and security stakeholders. Through dialogue and proactive measures, Kano remained relatively stable under his watch. Many citizens still refer to this as evidence of his administrative tact and conflict-management style.
Your Excellency, in the face of today’s growing insecurity, numerous voices across the country believe that someone with Dr. Ganduje’s background, experience, and relationships with key community stakeholders may be able to contribute significantly to your renewed effort to restore peace. These citizens argue that effective peacebuilding requires individuals who not only understand security strategy, but also possess the cultural and linguistic competence to engage with community influencers at grassroots level.
It is in view of this that I respectfully appeal to Your Excellency to consider appointing Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to a national security-related position, particularly as Minister of Defence, or any other role you deem appropriate. Many believe that with his experience, he could help open channels of communication, strengthen trust with local communities, and support ongoing military operations through dialogue-based interventions where necessary.
Some are confident that, given even six months, Dr. Ganduje could make meaningful contributions by liaising with community leaders, engaging various groups constructively, and complementing the work of our armed forces. Your Excellency has consistently demonstrated wisdom in choosing the right people for national assignments, and it is our hope that this humble recommendation will receive your kind consideration.
Nigeria stands at a critical moment. Your leadership has inspired hope, and your commitment to ending insecurity is unquestionable. It is our collective prayer that Almighty God will continue to guide you as you make decisions that safeguard our nation and promote lasting peace.
Thank you, Your Excellency, for your time, your dedication, and your service to our beloved country.
With the highest esteem and respect,
Alhaji Bala Salihu Dawakin Kudu
