PAAU Disclaims Claims Linking Auditor-General to School Fees Increase
By Democracy Newsline
The Management of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Kogi State, has distanced itself from claims circulating on social media alleging that the Office of the Auditor-General of Kogi State was responsible for the increase in school fees at the institution.
The university, in a disclaimer issued by its Director of Public Affairs, Uredo Omale, described the allegation as misleading, stressing that the statement did not emanate from the institution and did not represent its official position on the matter.
According to the management, the current school fee arrangement is the implementation of a unified school fee payment policy approved by the Kogi State Government for the three state-owned universities.
The university explained that its position had consistently been that the fee structure resulted from the government’s approved policy and should not be misconstrued as an action initiated by the Office of the Auditor-General.
It further clarified that failure to implement duly approved government directives, including those relating to financial administration, could attract audit queries or other appropriate scrutiny.
The management noted that similar situations involving the non-implementation of government directives on other financial matters within the university had also attracted attention.
However, it emphasised that this explanation should not be interpreted as attributing the school fee policy or the increase in fees to the Office of the Auditor-General of Kogi State.
The university consequently urged members of the public to disregard the circulating claims and rely on verified information disseminated through its authorised communication channels.
The disclaimer was signed by Uredo Omale, Director of Public Affairs, Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba.
The clarification comes amid discussions surrounding the university’s school fee structure and the implementation of the Kogi State Government’s unified fee payment policy across its three state-owned universities.
