PDP National Chairmanship: Group drums support for Teejay Yusuf, insists he’s the best option
EMMANUEL AGAJI
With a few days to the National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), scheduled for March 29 and 30 in Abuja, the North Central Initiatives; a group within the party has declared support for the emergence of Hon. TeeJay Yusuf, as the best candidate for the position of National Chairman.
The Group, a strategic alliance network of different associations in the North Central geo-political zone with allegiance to the PDP believes that the former three-term member of the House of Representatives aside being eminently qualified, is the best option for the PDP, at this point in time.
In a statement jointly signed by Comrade Alhassan Garba, Mr. Paul Itopa, and Alhaji Ambali Abdulganiyu; President, Secretary, and Publicity Secretary respectively, issued in Abuja on Monday, after its deliberations, the Group stated that, “as our dear party moves towards proper re-positioning, after years of challenges, difficulties, and crises, Yusuf is the best person to pilot this new dream and cause.
Over the years, he has consistently emerged as a natural bridge-builder, an excellent networker who is loved by the vast majority of members. He has the strength of character, integrity, and capacity for the position.
We like to state unequivocally, that after extensive search, and sampling the opinions of party members with diverse and different cleavages, Yusuf ticks all the boxes.
A thorough, true, loyal, and reliable party member, Yusuf has remained consistent in defending the values of the PDP; despite repeated offers from other parties.
That Yusuf has built – and is still building – enduring relationships across-the-board within the PDP, and beyond is a strong indication of the numerous positives that the party will benefit from him, as the National Chairman.”
The Group also believes that, “Yusuf’s massive experiences in advocacy, negotiations, networking, and policy deliveries from his days as the Secretary-General of the National Association of Nigerian Students, (NANS), and twelve years in the National Assembly where he emerged as a very resourceful, diligent, effective, and efficient lawmaker are what the PDP needs going forward.
“We are very confident that Yusuf with the support of all our leaders, particularly His Excellency, Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike, our National Leader, the fortunes of our party will not only be positively turned around, but also lifted to greater heights.
Though many party faithful know that Yusuf is not overtly ambitious, but for us, since we are convinced that he is the best option, we have begun strategic discussions with elders, leaders, members, and different groups canvassing what the PDP will gain with him as the national chairman.
Happily, for now, there are positive reactions, and we are hopeful that, his endorsements will gather necessary mileage and momentum as we get close to the convention .
