PDP Wins FCT Area Council Elections, Reinforces Position as Strong Opposition Force

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged victorious in the recent Area Council elections held across the six municipal areas of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), solidifying its position as the strongest opposition force in Nigeria.

The PDP candidate, Hon Mohammed Kasim, won the Gwagwalada Area Council election, defeating his closest rival, the APC candidate, with a total of 22,165 votes to 17,788 votes.

In a statement, PDP stakeholder, Hon Prince Oluwakayode Emmanuel Esyesin, attributed the party’s victory to its strong structure, legacy, grassroots mobilization, and the unwavering loyalty of the people.

The PDP’s win is seen as a significant indicator of its readiness for the forthcoming presidential race, especially as other parties scramble for support.

“The outcome of the FCT elections has shown that electoral strength is not built on personalities alone, but on structure, legacy, grassroots mobilization, and the unwavering loyalty of the people,” Esyesin said.

The PDP’s performance is also seen as a blow to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which has recently attracted several high-profile defectors from the PDP.

Esyesin commended PDP candidates, party faithful, and voters in the FCT for their trust in the party and urged the party to consolidate its structures nationwide in preparation for future triumphs.

“The PDP remains strong. The PDP remains relevant. The PDP remains the people’s party,” he said.
