PIBCID, NWTF trains students on rights enforcement, obligations.
A Child Right Expert, Nathaniel Abaniwo has called on the public particularly children of Secondary school age to be conversant will laws relating to their rights and obligations and know when to demand this rights when they are violated in accordance with the relevant laws.
Abaniwo who stated this on Tuesday, during a capacity building training for students of GYB Model Secondary School, Adankolo in Lokoja, noted that, the rights equally comes with responsibilities, which the students have to carry out too.
According to him the child rights law was passed into law in 2019 in Kogi state, but however said one of the missing components in the law is sensitization, which is the reason they have decided to carry out the capacity building exercise for students across secondary schools in the state.
He added that the Rights have been simplified into 4 different components, which includes; Rights to survival, protection Right, participation Right, and development Right.

Executive Director Participation Initiative for Behavioural Change in Development ( PIBCID), encouraged the students to always report to relevant authorities when their rights are violated.
According to her, the programme is being carried out by PIBCID and Nigeria Women Trust Fund, (NWTF), to educate the children on their rights and the expected behavior from them by the society.
Speaking with Journalists, the Students in their various responses, commended PIBCID and NWTF for training them on their rights, where to report when it’s being violated and what is expected of them.
Ajugbolamu Victory Temiloluwa and Okehi Dada, both Senior Secondary School Two (SS2) Students who spoke on behalf of the students, said they are now fully equipped with the laws concerning their rights and what is equally expected of them
“We now know our rights and where to report in case of violation. We are told that we can report to the police, public complaint commission, a senior person in the community and all other relevant authorities saddled with the responsibility of receiving reports and enforcing the rights of the child.
A female teacher in the school, Laruba Idegwu Jane, bpromised to work with the students to ensure that more students are aware of their rights and how to enforce it when it’s violated.
The Executive Director, Dual Care Initiative, Pastor Rosline Alabi, while commending PIBCID and NWTF for the initiative, called on the students to be aware of their responsibility in addition to the enforcement of the rights as enshrined in the Childs Right law.
