Plateau State Government to Recruit 1,000 Youths for Operation Rainbow
By Azi Peter – Jos
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has announced plans to recruit over 1,000 youths into the state’s community policing initiative, Operation Rainbow, to strengthen security in the state.
The governor made this known during the 2025/2026 Legal Year Celebration in Jos, emphasizing the importance of credible intelligence in addressing insecurity.
According to Governor Mutfwang, the recruits will be posted to their communities as the first and last line of defense, complementing conventional security agencies. He also reiterated his call for the creation of state police, urging the National Assembly to expedite the process.
The governor stressed the need for synergy between the bar and bench, cautioning judicial officers against throwing their integrity into the gutter. “As ministers in the temple of justice, they should uphold their integrity,” he said.
Pius Akubo SAN, speaking on behalf of the Inner Bar, lamented the rate of poverty and insecurity in Nigeria, citing that 133 million Nigerians, representing 63% of the population, are poor.
He emphasized that good governance is a recipe for democracy and advocated for appointments of judges to be based on merit rather than ethnic affiliation or quota system.
The Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Philimon Dafi, highlighted the ministry’s efforts in deepening the rule of law, providing legal aid, and promoting welfare and motivation of lawyers.
He said the ministry has provided 669 legal services to citizens, with 493 released on bail and 168 charged to court.
The Chief Judge of Plateau State, Justice David Mann, commended Governor Mutfwang for his unwavering support to the judiciary.
He disclosed that the state high court entertained 38,611 cases, with magistrates handling 82,357 cases, and 11,881 disposed of, while 70,475 are pending.
