Political Tension Mounts in Kebbi as ADC Alleges Persecution of Malami Ahead of 2027 Polls.

Political activities in Kebbi State are gathering momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with growing tensions between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over the prosecution of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN).

The ADC has accused the APC-led government of using state institutions and anti-corruption agencies to frustrate and weaken its governorship candidate, alleging that the legal actions against Malami are politically motivated and aimed at diminishing his political influence before the next governorship election.

Speaking through party officials, the ADC maintained that the timing of the investigations and prosecution raises serious questions, insisting that the actions amount to political persecution rather than a genuine anti-corruption campaign. The party vowed that it would not be intimidated and reaffirmed its commitment to participating fully in the democratic process.

According to the opposition party, no amount of pressure or legal action would deter it from presenting its candidates or mobilizing support across Kebbi State. Party leaders urged supporters to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and focused despite what they described as increasing political intimidation.

On the other hand, anti-graft agencies have consistently rejected allegations of political interference. The agencies maintain that all investigations and prosecutions are guided strictly by available evidence, existing laws, and due process. Officials insist that no individual is above the law and that corruption-related allegations must be investigated regardless of political affiliation or public office previously held.

Political analysts say the unfolding developments underscore the intense political rivalry already taking shape ahead of the 2027 elections. They note that as political alignments continue to evolve across the country, Kebbi State is emerging as one of the states likely to witness heightened political competition.

Observers have called on all political stakeholders to exercise restraint, respect democratic institutions, and avoid actions or statements capable of escalating tensions. They also urged law enforcement agencies and the judiciary to remain impartial in handling politically sensitive matters to preserve public confidence in the rule of law.
As preparations for the 2027 elections gradually intensify, the controversy surrounding Malami’s prosecution is expected to remain a major talking point in Kebbi politics. Whether the legal proceedings will reshape the state’s political landscape or reinforce public confidence in accountability will largely depend on the transparency, fairness, and credibility of the judicial process.
For now, the ADC insists it will continue its political activities without fear, while government agencies maintain that the law will take its course without regard to political considerations. The coming months are expected to provide greater clarity as both the legal and political processes unfold.
