POWA KOGI CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2025, CALLS FOR ACCELERATE ACTION ON GENDER EQUALITY, GIRL CHILD EDUCATION

The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Kogi State Chapter, today, 8th March 2025, joined the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) under the theme: “Accelerate Action!” The event, which took place at the Confluence Hall, Kogi State Police Command Headquarters, Lokoja, brought together women from various backgrounds to discuss the importance of Healthcare issues, gender equality, empowerment, and societal progress.

The rally commenced with a road walk round the town before returning to the Police Command Headquarters for an indoor session, where guest speakers from various disciplines, including medical professionals from the Police Clinic, delivered insightful lectures.

In her keynote address, Dr. Mrs. Bessie Dantawaye, Chairperson of POWA Kogi State and wife of the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc, Kogi State command, also representing the National President, Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, emphasized the need for women to support and uplift one another. She stressed that women’s empowerment is key to societal growth.

She disclosed that, to empower a woman is to empower a child, a family, and ultimately, a nation. We must take bold steps, support each other, and ensure that no woman is left behind in the quest for equality and progress.

She further encouraged women to embrace confidence, take up leadership roles, and make meaningful contributions to their communities.

The guest speakers, Inspector Peter Gloria, and Mrs Janet Moses who highlighted the importance of women’s health and well-being. Medical experts provided enlightening sessions on critical health issues such as, personal hygiene, cancer, diabetes, and overall wellness. The Police Children’s School Pupils also participated, receiving valuable counseling and guidance on healthy living.

In her closing remarks, the Chairperson, Dr. Mrs. Bessie Dantawaye extended appreciation to the media team present for their unwavering support and coverage of the event, acknowledging their role in amplifying the voices of women in society.

The celebration concluded on a high note, with a renewed commitment to Gender equality, Girl Child Education, peace, love, and unity. POWA Kogi State Chapter reaffirmed its dedication to advocating for women’s rights and fostering an inclusive society where every woman has the opportunity to thrive.
