President Tinubu Approves Appointment of Prof. Thairu Yunusa as CMD of UATH

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Prof. Thairu Yunusa as the fifth substantive Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, Abuja, for a tenure of four years.
In a statement signed by the Deputy Director, Information University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) Gwagwalada, Abuja, Sani Suleiman FNGE said that the approval was conveyed through the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate.
During the official handover ceremony held at the hospital’s Board Room, on Thursday, March 26, 2026, the outgoing Acting CMD, Prof. Bob Ukonu, commended the management and staff for their cooperation and support during his tenure.
He pledged his continued support to the new leadership whenever called upon, in the collective effort to advance healthcare delivery within the institution.
In his acceptance remarks, Prof. Thairu Yunusa expressed gratitude to the Honourable Minister of Health for his nomination and to President Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him.
He assured that he would give his best in office and called for the maximum cooperation of the hospital’s management and staff to enhance service delivery and patient satisfaction.
Prof. Thairu, who played a leading role in the management and treatment of COVID-19 cases in 2020 in UATH, emphasized the importance of teamwork and staff welfare.
According to him, “a motivated workforce is critical to quality patient care,” adding that a united management team would be instrumental in moving the hospital to greater heights.
He further reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening clinical services, improving operational efficiency, and positioning UATH as a centre of excellence in healthcare delivery.
