Prince Godstime Ukuanovwe Oj has come up to the defense of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Abraka Division, CSP Fabian Ayameh.

Recall that one Irhue Kesiena recently in a video made several weighty allegations against the police officer.

According to Kesiena, youths are illegally detained, extorted and oppressed by the police in the community.

He also alleged that last year over four youths were killed and the whereabouts of about 14 youths are still unknown.

But, Ukuanovwe who said it was not in his place to counter such allegations, said his reaction and decision to respond was simply to ensure that the DPO is focused on his job and not distracted from his mandate of mobilizing his men to keep Abraka and its environs safe securing lives and property.

The Delta State Chairman, Conference for the Actualization of Human Rights said he is a concerned party in the matter since he is an indigene of the community and his family members reside in Abraka, just as he argued that even police officers has rights too.

In his words, the man in question does not reside in Abraka, “why is he turning a personal matter he has with the DOO into a community matter; does he need to go online to disgrace himself and the community? What happened to due process?

Adding: “There exists several channels within the Nigerian Police Force made available to tackle issues of these nature as alleged by the comedian.”

He said further: “Some of these people make me believe that they know that they don’t know what they’re doing hence they take to the social media just to harrass the DPO.

He and the police officers need our support. These are challenging times and insecurity challenges seem to be a national issue and not just an Abraka issue as it relates to suspected Fulani kidnapping syndicates.

“Yes, the police obviously needs to buckle up in certain areas, but we must avoid the temptation to further aggravate the situation with these bashings of the police targeting and isolating this DPO.”

Media trials have never “been a solution and not the best form of advocacy. If we must involve ourselves in advocacy we must do so standing on bestial practices.

“It is even laughable that the fellow involved in the said media trial does so standing on outright gullibility with no intellectual bearing and direction relying solely on name calling and insults.

“This was how this same fellow called me out a few weeks ago erroneously out of shear ignorance and further gave me a non existent ultimatum but the very moment I gave him the silent treatment, he vanished into the thin air.”

Furthermore, he said: “Let me make this clear. The call for the removal of the DPO by some section of people is done maliciously. That is the fact and also Abraka community which has the incumbent PCRC State chairman and my humble self who is a state chairman of a human rights body if truly that we as a people can no longer manage the excess of the DPO either the PCRC state chairman or myself should champion such cause and when doing so it can never be such manner.”

He appealed to youths to avoid the pull-him-down syndrome strategy and rather engage in dialogue and also constructive criticism, saying criticisms should not come with insults and allegations with no evidence as whatever that is placed on the social media has negative and far more reaching effects on our people.

He opined that the DPO will not stay in Abraka forever but while he is still in charge of the police in the university community, it is imperative we support him and the police because his success is the community’s success.

The former House of Representatives candidate also advised youths to stay away from crime, criminality, drug abuse and cultism, adding that many times those that are quick to malign the police are part of those that contribute to the insecurity challenges in the area.

Meanwhile, sources close to the Police Division told Oasis Magazine on Thursday that the allegations made by Kesiena are false.

“The same Kesiena dragged the DPO to Zone 5 some time ago, but he came out clean at the end of the day,” one of the sources revealed.

According to one of the anonymous sources who are not authorized to speak, the DPO’s statement at Zone 5 showed that he was not in town on the day Kesiena’s brother was killed.

“The next day was the CP’s conference and normally what he does is that he always goes a day before the event in Asaba,” the source added.

This, he said he does so that he can stay with his family in Asaba before the programme the next day.

Also, our source said at Zone 5 where Kesiena petitioned the DPO to, he also presented the hunters as he was directed.

“When they were interviewing the hunters, they asked Kesiena for his witness. But when his witness saw the hunters, he said the hunters presented were not involved in the shooting.

Continuing, our source said that Kesiena claimed that he added the name of the DPO to his petition because he wanted the matter to be taken serious.

Speaking further, the source said: “Zone 5 went to the extent of going to MTN to get the call logs of the DPO to identify where he was as at the time of the event. It read that he was in Asaba.

“So, in January 2024, a new DCCID took charge and had to start the case from the start again. At the end of the day, the matter was in the DPO’s favour and it ended then.”

“We are shocked that this is coming up again. It is all unfounded allegation and an attempt to give the DPO a bad name.”

Oasis Magazine was also told by one of the said sources that the DPO has jettisoned all advice to sue for defamation, saying God will vindicate him.
