PTI Mgt Task new SUG Executive on Accountability, Dialogue

By Wilson Macaulay

The Principal and Chief Executive of the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Engr. Dr. Samuel E. Onoji has urged the newly inaugurated Students Union Government (SUG) officials of the Institute to uphold accountability and dialogue as a vital tool of good leadership.

The PTI Chief Executive who was represented by the Director, Research and Development, Dr. (Mrs.) Tina Isichei at the swearing in ceremony of the 2024/2025 SUG and SRC executive at the Institute Council Chamber, charged them to enforce peace and serenity in the Institute.

In her words, “It is a privilege to be elected as the student’s representative, and you should make it count. Whatever issues you have with the management can be resolved through dialogue without insults or protest erupting.

“Accountability is part of leadership and every dime spent either for projects or any other course should be accounted for. If you cannot handle the little entrusted to you at this level of leadership, then you cannot make a good leader tomorrow”, she advised.

Speaking further, Dr. Isichei reminded the students leaders on the need to uphold all the polices guiding their stay in the Institute. “Also, the Institute works with a policy of zero tolerance to cultism, examination malpractice, prostitution, and all other social vices and in this light, I would want the SUG leaders to promote these principles among the student community thereby leading to continuity and a conducive learning environment.”

The Principal’s representative also appealed to the students leaders to break the jinx of always asking for postponement of examination by students, informing them that the constant postponement of examination have its effects on the final year students as they will be unable to graduate with their peers, go to service with their peers and also join the labour market with their peers.

These she said denies them of so many job opportunities as they will not able to meet up the deadline or job openings at their time of graduation.

According to her, “I urge this tenure to step up and ensure that classes begin when it should and also that examination postponement be stopped. Remember, the office does not give the SUG and SRC executives the right to bully or intimidate others. Leadership is all about service and the willingness to serve others diligently”.

Responding, the newly elected SUG President, Comrade Temisan Collins Oghenevwede assured the Institute Management that under his tenure, the Institute would be a peaceful and protest free environment.
