RATTAWU Kogi Elects New Leaders, Reaffirms Commitment to Workers’ Welfare

…delegates Conference Held in Lokoja as New Executives Take Oath of Office

The Kogi State Council of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers’ Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) has ushered in a new era of leadership following the successful conduct of its State Delegates Conference held on Thursday, June 5, 2025.

The well-attended event took place at the Onuh Edoka NLC House in Lokoja, bringing together delegates from major chapters including NTA Lokoja, the State Arts Council, and Radio Kogi. Also present were top National Officers officers of RATTAWU, lending strong institutional support to the transition.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were the Vice President (North-Central), Comrade Odekina; National Youth Leader, Comrade Victor Ekpo, representing the National President, Comrade Dr. Garba Tsanni; Acting National Women Leader, Comrade Habitat Umar Ibrahim; as well as Chairmen of NNAMN and AUPTRE. The Director General of Radio Kogi, Princess Nana Hauwa Yusuf, was represented by the Director of Commercial Services, Comrade Labaran Baba Aminu.

In his welcome address, Comrade Haruna Isah Yakubu, who was later re-elected as Council Chairman, acknowledged some challenges during the outgoing tenure but praised members for their perseverance.
He expressed appreciation to the national leadership of RATTAWU for their guidance and to Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for prioritizing workers’ welfare, particularly in prompt salary payments and the recent leave bonus to workers in the state.

He also commended Comrade Onuh Edoka, Special Adviser on Labour Matters, for his steadfast support and called on the government to reinstate the professional weigh-in allowance for media and cultural workers in the state.

Goodwill messages from the national officers and affiliate unions emphasized unity, inclusion, and the importance of grassroots mobilization.
Comrade Habitat Umar Ibrahim, in particular, advocated for increased participation of women in union leadership.
The DG of Radio Kogi, through her representative, also congratulated the incoming executives and encouraged them to build on existing legacies.
The climax of the conference was the affirmation and swearing-in of the new executive council, following a motion moved by Egene Samson (Soso) and seconded by Mary Adejoh. The oath of office was administered to the newly affirmed officers:

Chairman: Comrade Haruna Isah Yakubu

Vice Chairman: Comrade Olugbenga Francis Aina

Secretary: Comrade Ndamodu Ali

Treasurer: Comrade Blessing Adams

Assistant Secretary: Comrade Getine Omojah

Financial Secretary: Comrade Solomon Yahaya

Auditor: Comrade Helen Ali

Public Relations Officer: Comrade Sam Odiji

Ex-Officio Members: Comrades Joy Audu and Alhassan Aliyu

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Haruna Yakubu pledged to run an inclusive, transparent, and action-driven administration. The new Secretary, Comrade Ndamodu Ali, in his vote of thanks, appreciated the confidence reposed in the team and assured delegates of a revitalized union.

The conference concluded with group photographs and light-hearted celebration, marking a new beginning for RATTAWU Kogi State Council.
